Research Sprint

Make real progress on the work that matters most.

A focused six-week 1:1 programme, built around one piece of research
you want to finish.

How it works

There's usually one piece of research that keeps getting pushed down the list. A chapter you've meant to draft for months, an analysis you've half-started, or an article that needs finishing.

The Sprint is built for that piece of work.

01

Plan it together

A 30-minute planning session at the start to define your goal and what "done" looks like.

02

Do the work, with Lyn alongside

Six weeks of your work, with 1:1 sessions, weekly check-ins, and email access whenever you're stuck.

03

Adjust as you go

The planning structure isn't set in stone. If your goal needs to shift, the weekly check-ins let you adjust deliberately rather than drift.

Examples of goals that work well:

  • A first draft of a journal article
  • A thesis chapter completed
  • A specific piece of qualitative or quantitative analysis worked through
  • A literature review structured and written

Sprint here doesn't mean rushing or pushing yourself hard. And if you're working with a supervisor or mentor, it sits alongside that, not in place of it.

Is the Sprint right for you?

This is for you if:

  • You have one specific piece of research you want to make real progress on in the next six weeks
  • You want expert input alongside the work, not generic advice
  • You're ready to commit to one focused goal and protect time for it
  • You're doing the work yourself, with the Sprint as a structure around it

This isn't for you if:

  • You're looking for ongoing supervision or mentoring
  • You don't yet have a sense of what you'd focus on
  • Six weeks doesn't fit your timeline right now
  • You're hoping someone will do the research work for you

Meet Lyn

I'm Dr Lyn Lavery — researcher, facilitator, and the person you'll be working with throughout the Sprint.

I've been teaching research methods and data analysis in New Zealand and Australian universities for over 25 years. My PhD from the University of Auckland is in educational psychology, specifically self-regulated learning — which means I spend a lot of time thinking about how people learn best, particularly in relation to research methods.

I'm an NVivo Platinum Certified Trainer and have previously trained for SPSS NZ, so I'm comfortable across qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods work. What I'm probably best known for though, is making complicated methods feel manageable, keeping things practical and having a bit of fun along the way.

The Sprint is the most focused way I work 1:1 with researchers. If you've got one piece of work that needs to happen in the next six weeks, I'd love to help you get it done.

Sprint pricing

Booked separately, the 1:1 time alone would cost around $900. The Sprint covers all of that — plus the weekly check-ins, email access, and curated resources matched to your goal.

Both prices below are launch rates for the first cohorts of the Sprint. They'll go up once the launch period closes, so this is the best time to join.

By proceeding with payment, you're confirming you've read and accepted the fine print below.

The fine print

  • Your Sprint must commence by 13 July 2026.
  • The 3 hours of 1:1 time must be used within your six weeks and cannot be carried over.
  • Payment is in full at the time of booking.
  • All sessions are run online via Zoom, scheduled in NZ time (international participants very welcome — we'll find times that work).
  • 1:1 sessions can be rescheduled with at least 24 hours' notice. Cancellations inside that window will still count toward your 3 hours.
