Welcome to Research Accelerator Toolkit!

You'll have access to 30 self-paced video courses for qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research (access expires 31 December, 2026).

You'll need to navigate the courses to decide which ones will best suit your project. When you're viewing the courses dashboard, look for the navigation options down the left-hand side. These will allow you to view courses for different levels of experience, software and types of research (qualitative, qualitative or mixed methods). Note that if you're conducting mixed methods research, the qualitative and quantitative courses may also be relevant to your project.

The following information will help you make the most of the courses:

  • If you need to ask questions about the course content, there is a Questions button in the top-right of the video player – we will get back to you within one working day. There will also be a Live Q&A session every second month, where you can ask your questions in real time – these will start in Match, and the dates for these will be available on the website nearer the time.
  • If you find the speed of the videos too fast/slow, there is an option to change the play speed – click the gear icon in the bottom-right of the video player to adjust the speed.
  • Note that there are downloadable exercise files and handouts for each course. Please take the time to download these as they are referred to in the videos – you can find them underneath the first video for each course.

If you plan to work through the NVivo courses:

  • Note that you will need to install the software. The Graduate Research School has provided some information about how to access this: https://www.academic-consulting.co.nz/aut-nvivo-access.pdf
  • Note that you need one of the latest versions of NVivo installed – either NVivo 14 or 15. Some AUT webpages indicate that NVivo 12 is the latest software version and that this is what is available to you – this is incorrect. Unfortunately, we cannot assist with technical issues relating to the NVivo software installation – these need to be directed back to AUT

If you plan to work through the SPSS courses:

  • Note that you will need to install the software. The Graduate Research School has provided some information about how to access this: https://www.academic-consulting.co.nz/aut-spss-access.pdf
  • The SPSS videos were recorded for researchers using SPSS 27 and SPSS 28. AUT recently started making SPSS 29 and 30 available – there are a few very minor differences in these latest versions, but these should not impact your understanding of the material. If you have any questions about your version of SPSS specifically, you're welcome to ask. Note that we cannot assist with technical issues relating to the installation of the SPSS software – these need to be directed back to AUT.

If you have any questions about accessing the material or how the training works, please don’t hesitate to ask us. We hope you find the courses helpful for your research!
