As part of your registration for the virtual conference, you’ll have access to the full Research Accelerator course library with over 150 hours of video content. The Research Accelerator video tutorials are largely focused on the data analysis and writing up stages of a research project. There are also some courses on productivity to assist you with managing the research process. There is quite a heavy focus on qualitative research, but there are also some videos for those of you conducting quantitative analysis and mixed methods.  

While having access to such a large number of courses is a huge bonus, it can also be a little overwhelming when you're trying to find a course that best suits your needs! We'd love to provide you with a roadmap for exactly what to watch, but everyone has different levels of research and software experience, which makes this really difficult to do. If you’re looking for something specific (e.g. tutorials on NVivo or SPSS) you can use the ‘Search’ box at the top of the course library to help you locate specific videos.

While we can't give you an exact roadmap, we can make some general suggestions:

• If you're brand new to NVivo and want to learn about the software for your qualitative research, start with the NVivo Foundations series. You might not need some of the intermediate level courses in this series, but they would be useful to watch to give you an overview of the software. Once you're more confident with NVivo you might like to move onto the Building on NVivo Basics courses. You might also find Transcription Tips and Tricks helpful if you're working with interviews or focus groups.

 

• If you're already familiar with the basics of NVivo, you might like to check modules 4 through 7 in the NVivo Foundations series. These cover cases and classifications, coding queries, NVivo's visualisation tools and reporting. There are also a range of intermediate-level NVivo courses in Building on NVivo Basics.

 

• If you're new to qualitative research, then we suggest starting with Qualitative Analysis for Beginners and Qualitative Writing for Beginners. You might also find Transcription Tips and Tricks helpful if you're working with interviews or focus groups. If you’re interested in different qualitative analysis approaches, we have a series of videos with qualitative analysis experts, including Ginny Braun (reflexive thematic analysis), Nigel King (template analysis), David Thomas (general inductive approach) and Janine Wiles (narrative analysis).

 

• If you’re experienced with qualitative analysis and writing, you might be interested in the courses on Developing Themes, Developing Qualitative Models and Diagrams and Qualitative Data Analysis Approaches: A Quick Tour. If you’re interested in different qualitative analysis approaches, we have a series of videos with qualitative analysis experts, including Ginny Braun (reflexive thematic analysis), Nigel King (template analysis), David Thomas (general inductive approach) and Janine Wiles (narrative analysis).

 

• If you’re looking for ways of improving your productivity, you could start by watching Productivity Tips for Researchers. From there, if there are specific aspects of your productivity you need to work on, we have courses on Evernote, Trello, XMind and note-taking. Effective use of reference management software can also be key to productivity, and we have specific courses on EndNote and Zotero. If your work involves large amounts of repetitive typing, we’d highly recommend watching Saving Time with TextExpander.

 

• For mixed methods researchers, we had a full day of mixed methods sessions at Research Accelerator 2022. You can view the videos of these sessions, which included Digital Tools for Mixed Methods, An Introduction to Mixed Methods, Analysing and Integrating Mixed Methods Data, Qual Tricks: Survey Design for Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research and a Live Q&A session with Professor Pat Bazeley. We also have a specific course on using NVivo for Mixed Methods (with SPSS) and an Introduction to Mixed Methods course.

 

• If you're brand new to Statistics and SPSS, then the Statistics Foundations series will be perfect for you. Make sure you work through these in order!

 

• If you're familiar with the basics of SPSS, then you might find the Diving Deeper into SPSS course helpful. If you're already familiar with the basics of statistics and statistical testing then our courses might not be quite right for you – we only cover basic statistics as part of Research Accelerator (at this stage).

 

• Lastly, there is an extensive database of Live Q&A sessions from our monthly membership and annual conferences over the last three years. Check underneath each video to see the list of questions that were asked – you can find the timestamps there so that you can skip through the video and just watch the questions that are of interest.
