Now in its third year, our annual virtual conference is bigger and better than ever and we're really looking forward to seeing you there! The idea behind the event is to provide a flexible and budget-friendly option for researchers who need to upskill to maximise their research outputs. Select the sessions most relevant to your research and experience level, then decide whether you'll work through the material live or on-demand. The conference is designed to be flexible so you can work around other commitments.

We’ve made it stress-free to access the content – all videos, training notes, exercise files, quizzes, the event community, Q&A and links to live sessions will be hosted on a single online platform. If you're too busy to attend the five-day event, no problem – there are two extended options for you to binge watch the material over the summer!

What we'll be covering at Research Accelerator 2022

Pre-event Webinars

Our pre-event webinars are free to attend! We'll be covering how to level up your qualitative analysis, save time with technology and how to make the most of NVivo (both for primary research and literature reviews). The highlight of our pre-event webinars will be the 'Ask the Expert: NVivo Trainer Panel'. Dr Lyn Lavery will be joined by Dr Anuja Cabraal, Dr Christina Silver and Dr Kirsti Jackson. They'll be sharing their favourite tips for using the software – bring along your NVivo questions and get the benefit of their combined experience!

December 1:
Qualitative Analysis

Day 1 of the conference kicks off with an opening webinar from Professor Nigel King, discussing quality issues in qualitative research. Dr Lyn Lavery will present the lunchtime webinar on the lessons she's learned from conducting qualitative analysis and she'll later be joined by Professor David Thomas for a live Q&A session about qualitative analysis. There's a wide range of on-demand sessions to select from – our top picks include recorded interviews with thematic analysis experts Professors Ginny Braun, Nigel King and David Thomas.

December 2:
Qualitative Software / NVivo

There's a focus on NVivo on Day 2 of the conference with a selection of live and on-demand videos for both beginners and experienced users of the software. If you're not planning to use NVivo or are curious about alternatives, there's also a recorded interview with Dr Christina Silver discussing qualitative analysis software more generally, and a session on keeping things simple with Microsoft Office for qualitative analysis. You can ask Dr Lyn Lavery any questions you have at the live Q&A at the end of the day, or at the two live morning webinars.

December 5:
Research Writing Tools

Day 3 of the conference focuses on tools to help you write more efficiently as a researcher, including using NVivo for literature reviews and reference management software. Dr Lyn Lavery will start the day with an overview of useful tools for your writing toolkit and there is a lunchtime presentation from the company that develops Covidence (for systematic literature reviews). At the live Q&A session, Lyn will be joined by Associate Professor Susan Carter – bring along your questions about writing tools or writing more generally.

December 6:
Mixed Methods

New to this year's conference is a full day dedicated to mixed methods, and we're delighted to have an excellent line-up of guest speakers. Dr Christina Silver will start the day by discussing digital tools for mixed methods, followed by Associate Professor Peter Rawlins who will present an introductory session on mixed methods designs. We'll then be welcoming Professor Pat Bazeley, who will cover the integration of mixed methods data and Matt Plummer will share his favourite tips for using Qualtrics for mixed methods. Professor Bazeley will join Dr Lyn Lavery at the end of the day for the live Q&A.

December 7:
Research Productivity

Professor Helen Sword will be opening our final day, with a webinar on writing productively. We're also hosting Dr Stacy Penna from QSR International, who will be covering how you can accelerate the writing and publishing process using Citavi and NVivo. There's a selection of on-demand sessions covering various productivity tools, including Evernote, Trello, XMind and TextExpander along with some of our favourite tips for productivity, note-taking and Excel. At the end of the day, join Dr Lyn Lavery for the final Q&A session and some closing comments.

Why should you attend Research Accelerator 2022?

It's been yet another busy year and your research is likely behind schedule. You need to learn skills fast, and don't have time to scroll through endless YouTube videos. With Research Accelerator 2022 you can customise your own programme and ask questions when you're stuck – all at a time convenient to you and at a price you can afford.

We're experts at what we do – we've been teaching research and data analysis for 25 years. Our students love our down-to-earth approach, and the numerous practical tips we share in our sessions. Our aim for this event is to leave you feeling inspired, motivated and well-equipped with the skills you need to move your research forward.

Everyone learns differently. Research Accelerator provides you with a range of different learning formats that you can work through at your own time and pace. If you learn best by connecting with others, attend our live events and participate in our private community. If you prefer to learn solo, that's okay too!

What previous attendees say

Whether you're an early career researcher, postgraduate student or experienced academic, our content will help accelerate your research. But don't take our word for it, read what previous attendees have said about our annual December event.

This was a great opportunity. It has been the ability to go back over the information (especially in those areas that were especially relevant, or where I found it tricky) that has been exceptionally useful to me. As I am more at the start of my PhD journey, I am feeling so much more confident about the use of NVivo as well as a better understanding of some of the qualitative and quantitative approaches.

Joanne van Wyk

PhD Candidate, Massey University

The Live Q&A sessions were the perfect blend of providing clear answers and suggestions on what to watch next, either as a refresher or advancement. With the impressive range of content, it was clear that Lyn knew the courses inside out and let her knowledge of both the content and how to apply it to different research contexts shine through. I always left the Q&A sessions energised, focused, and ready to take on the next task.

Yvonne Wood

SFHEA, Auckland University of Technology

The format of the videos was good – they were presented in small chunks with titles which made the watching easier. I found Lyn's talk very easy to follow and with the right tone and pace, very easy to listen to. I had attended a few of her trainings beforehand which were also covered as part of Research Accelerator and I still watched them. I would recommend Research Accelerator for anyone – experienced or not experienced.

Albert Kuruvila

Lecturer, James Cook University

Great coverage of material, well packaged and structured pieces of training. The presenter was across all types of research and an experienced researcher who talked effortlessly to many points. A clear speaker with an easy tone – there were very few ums, ahs and mis-cues, which greatly added to the ease of listening. I thought it reflected the experience of the presenter and her desire to provide a well finished product – which it was.

Lily Engelbrech

PhD Candidate, Victoria University of Wellington

Research Accelerator provides an excellent introduction to NVivo for novices and is a great opportunity for others to refresh and upgrade their NVivo skill set. The videos were great and I am glad they were split into smaller chunks. Lyn is very organized and extremely knowledgeable about NVivo. She has a knack for simplifying complex features into simple bites with handy manuals for reference.

Sashi Athota

PhD Candidate, Victoria University of Wellington
